This photograph shows the southern part of the our drill field, as viewed from near the camping area. The "Christo" style purple "virtual fence" has been placed to highlight the actual location of the site boundary. Solano Land Trust property is across the fence in the background.

McIntyre Ranch

McIntyre Ranch, located in the hills just northeast of Vallejo is a very unique place, so much so, in fact, that it almost seems impossible for it to exist at all! This North Bay Shangri-La is nestled into a secret valley just over a ridge from the Vallejo Auto Mall and the expansive Gateway Plaza shopping center, only three miles off busy Interstate 80 at the intersection of Highway 37 and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Standing in the parking lot of the Lowe’s home improvement center, and looking up at the hills, you would never guess that it was there! And yet, once you are at McIntyre Ranch, the sights and sounds of the city disappear and you feel like you are in another world!

The McIntyre Ranch property encompasses 22 acres of land owned and managed by the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD). It is surrounded by the 905 acre Vallejo Swett Ranch (owned by the Solano Land Trust). Although this land is not accessible to users of McIntyre Ranch (as it provides valuable habitat for endangered species) it offers magnificent vistas and the guaranty of solitude!

The ranch was previously owned by descendants of original settlers of the area, who also owned the surrounding Vallejo Swett Ranch and the nearby Eastern Swett Ranch. It was sold to the McIntyre family in 1975, and purchased by GVRD in 1986. For the very detail oriented among you, the complete Master Plan (30.18 MB PDF, 60 pages) is available online.
